A.D.R.
The Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road.
ADR stands for Accord European au Transport International des Merchandises Dangerous par Route.
Currently there are 42 contracting parties to the agreement.
Originally written in French it is then translated into the language of all the contracted parties. It is an agreement so that dangerous goods can be transported internationally with all contracting parties applying the same rules. Drivers carrying ‘in scope’ dangerous goods are required to be trained to the same exact standards and therefore the certificate awarded upon successful completion of a course is recognised throughout Europe.
To obtain a certificate, drivers have to attend an approved Department of Transport course which is administered by Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), at the end of a completed course, drivers have to undergo examinations set by the SQA.
The certificate is valid for 5 years and should a driver wish to renew the existing certificate, then a refresher course must be undertaken during the final year of validity (after 4 years but before 5), new certificates will then be dated from the expiry of the old one.
Approved courses are run in a regular basis at our training centre in Haverfordwest.
To facilitate client requirements we are also able to provide ‘in house’ training at suitable venues.
Our 5 day courses are currently split into 2 parts with the first 3½ days being Core, Packages and 7 danger classes concluding with exams and the final session is then taken up with the tanker module with one exam to complete the course.
At present the exams are paper bases but in the not to distant future we shall be undertaking the exams ‘on line’, allowing for a much speedier results process.
We pride ourselves in delivering the course in a language that the driver can understand and complement the course with a comprehensive set of course notes along with our course booklet for future reference.
Also on the subject of Dangerous Goods training, we are able to offer for both Consignors and Carriers a one day workshop to comply with the regulation of ‘All Others Involved’ whose duties include the carriage of dangerous goods.
